BAER-tests

On thsi page we will try to tell you something about the BAER-or BAEP-test.
With this test two thin electrodes are inserted near the ear and one on the forehead, which is completely painless to the aninal by the way. Then the cat gets a plug in one ear which is connected to the computer that provides the "clicks". By means of the electrodes one can see whether the brain responds to these sounds. If a nice sharp graphic comes up everything is alright and the cat can hear on that one ear. Then the ear electrodes are reversed and the plug is put in the other ear and the procedure is repeated. If all is well here too the cat has perfect hearing. In general the cat stays relaxed during the whole procedure but sometimes, due to some stress it may be necessary to sedate the cat a little. At the time of the test the cat is chipped or when it has already been chipped before you are required to bring a number that can be put on the certificate to prevent fraud. You will get a typed certificate with the results of the test.
